HOSPITAL SERVICES
AIM
The poor friendly hospital aims to provide high quality services for ultra-poor patients.
Among the numerous challenges in the healthcare sector in India, lack of access to quality services for the poor and marginalised communities remains at the forefront. It is primarily due to dismal investment in public healthcare, which is just at 1% of the GDP — among the lowest in the world.
We at SEWA Rural aim to identify the root causes of healthcare challenges and develop innovative solutions in coordination with various stakeholders, including Central and State governments, development agencies, CSR groups and the community, to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women.
METHOD
The 250-bed hospital offers round the clock emergency services for pregnant women, children, adults and people with eye diseases.
There are separate clinics for diabetes, infertility, antenatal care, Sickle Cell Disease backed by modern laboratories, X-ray and Ultra-Sonography Units, Operation Theatres, and appropriate Blood Storage facilities. Compassionate care by our dedicated staff blended with the latest technology provides a delightful patient experience. The hospital has a full time staff of about 25 medical doctors and other 100 trained paramedical staff, and total staff of 210. The mother and baby friendly hospital is also recognized as First Referral Unit (FRU) by state government and UNICEF and ensures Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric & Newborn Care (CEmONC).
IMPACT
2.7 million patients from more than 5,000 villages have been treated since 1980.
Yearly outdoor patients load is around 150,000 and 24,000 for indoor admissions, while more than 6000 deliveries and about 6000 surgeries (including cataracts) are being performed every year. All the services are either subsidised or free for the needy. More than 60 % patients in Indoor and 40 % patients in OPD are treated free.
