Health Training & Resource Center
AIM
Different cadres of health workers from NGO, government staff and students from varied academic institutions from India and abroad have expressed keen interest to visit SEWA Rural and learn from its rich grass root level experiences in community health, comprehensive eye care and rural development. To meet such ever-increasing demands, a formal training centre was established in 1990 at Jhagadia with the support of Share and Care foundation, USA. In 2010 it was shifted to Gumandev campus with the help of Macarther foundation,USA award money and NRHM grant.
METHOD
Various types of customized courses are offered as per the needs of the trainees coming from various NGOs as well as Government sector. These include trainings for TBAs, Community Health Volunteers, Anganwadi Workers (AWW), Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), Workers for Community Based Rehabilitation of Blind program (CBR Workers), paramedics of Health and Eye Care, health supervisors, project managers, doctors including ophthalmologists, government health officials and staff of Mother NGOs an Field NGOs. SEWA Rural’s training centre is the first to be recognised as an NGO facility by UNICEF and the Government for training of IMNCI (Integrated Management of neonatal and childhood illness and SBA skill birth attendant Training.
Similarly students from variety of academic institutions from India and abroad are now regularly coming to SEWA Rural as part of their field placement, dissertation or project work in the fields of health management, public health, masters in social work, international development etc. Institutions include Liverpool of Tropical Medicine(UK), Universities from USA like Emory,Michigan,Demoin,Tata Institute of Social Science (Mumbai),Achyuta Menon Center of Medical Science&Public Health(Trivendrum) IIPHG, Gandhinagar etc.
Under their CSR initiative, the Gujarat Tea Processors and Packers Limited established a Vocational Training Centre for Women / MahilaTalim Kendra (“Training Center”) at village Jhagadia, Dist. Bharuch, Gujarat. The project aims to promote women’s empowerment in the local populace (Jhagadia) by imparting vocational education and training in various fields. The training involves hospital nursing, laboratory technician training, stitching and garment making, primary computer education, self-defence, awareness about sexual harassment, personality development, health and nutrition and other formal and non-formal education.
IMPACT
Our health training programs have benefited 26,378 health workers of over 130 organizations all over the world. Vocational Training Centre for Women has trained 148 girls as nursing assistants, 36 Laboratory assistants,650 tailoring, 106 computers operators and more than 1500 adolescents an women received self-defense Training.
