Story of a donor
Birthday parties and gifts are exciting events for children. Shrey Smit Gandhi decided to celebrate his 7th birthday differently this year (2012). Instead of receiving birthday gifts for himself, Shrey asked his family and friends for donations to raise money to give back to his homeland of India. Shrey chose to donate to an organization called SEWA Rural, a non – profit to organization that is involved in health and development in poor, rural areas of India. Donations to SEWA Rural are used to help cover medical costs such as:
1) helping a woman to have a safe delivery,
2) giving sight to a person via a cataract operation, and
3) permanently sponsoring a bed in hospital which would cover cost of all patients who get admitted to this bed
Shrey has already collected $1000.00 dollars and he is donating the money in person when he travels back to India in November. His goal is to collect a total of $5000.00. Just like Shrey, any one of us can make a difference by showing others it is better to give then to receive. (Text taken from Shrey’s school newsletter.
