AIM
Since the year 2002, Sharda Mahila Vikas Society(SMVS) has been working towards the development of women, youth and children in villages of South Gujarat through a variety of programmes.
METHOD
The main programmes under SMVS are economic activities like snacks and garment making, savings/credit programmes, self-defence training courses, education and awareness.

1. Garment Programme
Women with prior stitching experience are trained under this programme to use high-speed machinery to prepare male uniforms. They are currently working on modern machines for stitching, buttoning and producing uniforms for industrial houses, boiler suits, school uniforms etc.
In the garment department alone, until 2023, around 285 women have collectively produced garments worth RS 1125 Lacs and earned a total income of Rs 293 Lacs.
2. Vocation Training Programme – Tailoring and Beauty Parlour
Tailoring course has started in the year 2011, and a total of 682 women and adolescent girls were trained. Post the programme, the students were given personal machines to be self-sufficient.
Beauty Parlour course was initiated in August 2019 and has since been providing valuable training to women and a total of 117 women and girls were trained and all successful trainees have been provided startup kit so that they can start earning immediately after training.
Our outreach program has been started for tailoring and beauty parlour courses in Amalzar , Jhamboi and Nana Sanjha Villages. About 100 women benefited from this program.
3. Snacks Making Programme
Snack making program started in the year 2002, Since then 46 women produced goods worth Rs. 103.50 lacs and earn Rs. 21.80 lacs till 2023.
4. Saving and Credit Programme
All women are actively participating in saving /credit programmes besides the economic activities. This programme aims to facilitate these women for loans so that they don’t fall prey to the exploitation of money lenders. Women themselves manage this program.
5. Women empowerment Programme / Awareness Campaigns
Periodically, campaigns are organised to spread awareness on women’s health, scientific & spiritual approaches of fasting, best out of waste, financial independence, and women’s rights, to name a few.
6. Self Defence
Self defense training has been taken by the young girls and women of various training courses in the institute like Sewing, Beauty Parlour, Nursing assistant, Computer trainees, female staff and newly joined female staff of the organization. Training has also been done with school girls as per demand.
7. Children Education and Development
This programme aims to impart life skill training such as basic hygiene, familial and social responsibilities, visits to banks, and post offices to children from underprivileged families for std. 1 to 9. A Mobile Van donated by the Gujarat Tea Processors and Packers Limited to SEWA Rural under this project enhanced the speed, efficiency and scope of imparting educational and vocational teachings to the girls and boys studying in primary schools of around 16 villages. Two thousand children are benefitted every year.
IMPACT
1,500 deprived women were empowered by Sharda Mahila Vikas Society thru various financial and academic programs. 17,943 children have been provided with extra-school coaching and holistic education so that they may become responsible future citizens.
